Dijital Journalism

Writer: Murat SELVİMurat SELVİ

The developments in the communications world we want to categorize the most basic way, there is a general classification by recognized experts in the field. According to this; The invention of writing, the invention of the printing press, and the invention of electricity/electronics are described as three major revolutions. The first of these allowed for recording and transmission from one place to another.

The printing house, seen as the second revolution, enabled the rapid reproduction of these records and served the dissemination of information as one of the reasons for the newspaper's existence. Finally, thanks to electricity, it has become possible to transfer information to very long distances within seconds, and electronic circuits provide people with extremely easy, fast, reproducible and effortlessly stored / portable ways of recording information. All these developments closely affected professional groups as well as the whole social structure and the way many works are done has changed. It is even observed that there are professions that disappear thanks to emerging technology. In the Ottoman Empire, where people in this profession gained a very important status when writing and recording information by writing was a very important profession, it is important that people from this profession, called calligrapher, caused a delay in entering the country due to the strong position they gained in society. is a historical event. Calligraphers who think so are opportunities offered by the printing press will lose their status and, using certain arguments have become one of the biggest factors that precede the use of the printing press for a long time. However, like every innovation in the history of the emitted flow, could be no inhibitions and no long-term printing as they think about the status of a full mentioned in the Ottoman geography is spread by occupational group.

With the addition of internet network and social media platforms, digital environments, which have the opportunity to spread very widely in a relatively short time, have carried the electrical/electronic innovation, which is described as the third revolution, to a very different and far beyond predictions. Nowadays, it is possible to exchange data with any point in the world within seconds and to provide sound, image and photo transfer. In today's world, which is defined as the information society, network society or digital society, information from any point in the world is ready for access by any device connected to the network when it is transferred to the digital environment. From this point of view, it can be said that all kinds of information produced today are only a few clicks away for humans. Given that this is all about accessing all kinds of information thanks to this innovation, it is one of the most emphasized questions of today whether professions such as journalism, whose job is to transmit information, will disappear like calligraphy, or how it will be affected by this situation, how it will change. Although this is a lot of opinions put forward in response to a question, we think the journalistic profession just outright not regard as the transmission of information, data collection, processing, even if the preparation and presentation of activities that existed evaluating the total and even have a more important point than before are logical to be concerned. Unlimited access to information in the easiest way ever to reach with information, that information can not be detected if achieved, will not be much of a difference.

Due to some basic journalistic functions such as processing, verifying and making information understandable, it can be thought that journalists will continue to exist even if the practice and practices of the profession undergo radical changes. Because the internet and digital technology, which offer an unlimited source of information, will be useless when it is not known what information is wanted. The collection and organization of information stand out as a feature that the reader will need for every period. Even if instant information sharing and rapid dissemination have become possible thanks to the existence of social media platforms, the accuracy of this information, the reality of the issue, or whether it is distortion cannot be easily understood.

Thanks to the speed made possible by new technologies, some handicaps have emerged regarding the accuracy or reliability of the news. Therefore, this high amount of information that can be accessed instantly through social media platforms and the information accessed through journalists are qualitatively different. Considering the characteristics of journalists such as obtaining the information from the source, verifying the news, and presenting the relevant parts in a complete and complete manner, it can be stated that they are more reliable against information that does not pass any filter or verification process. At least the journalist has a personal identity and in most cases, there is a corporate identity.

So far, we have talked about the changes in news gathering and dissemination processes thanks to developing technology and the effects on the journalism profession. Thanks to all these effects, we have summarized that journalism professionals, one of the intermediaries between information and readers, withdraw from the gap and the reader has an instant and uninterrupted access to an unlimited source of information. Hence, the comments that this radical change will reduce the need for the journalism profession are far from realistic. People still need to transform, organize, and classify information in a way that is available to receive in appropriate conditions. And it is reasonable to assume that this need will increase in the same direction as the amount of information increases.

In summary, although developing technology has deeply affected the practices of the journalism profession in many ways, the need for the journalism profession seems to continue. The changes mentioned throughout all articles consist of changes in the way journalism is practised, the processes of access to the news, the opportunities and conditions of publication.
